Vintage Polaroid – Distinct Design

Featured on BoxVox, this study of vintage Polaroid packaging combines product information with striking graphic design.

In an excellent example of form following function, these rainbow colored Polaroid packs served first and foremost to notify consumers of their product’s capabilities. In 1968, Designer Paul Giambarba was put in charge of branding Polaroid packs, and utilized the classic rainbow to articulate the camera’s new “color picture” abilities.

While the rainbow has an obvious relationship to the time period, it nonetheless remains a useful design element, both in providing key information, and in livening up a pack’s exterior.
